Early Career Workshop 2023 - Fall

The 2023 fall edition of the annual Early Career Workshop by the Chair of International Relations of FSU Jena was hosted in the Dornburg Castle between 15-16 September 2023. The event's goal was to bring together young researchers and provide an opportunity to present and discuss PhD dissertation projects. The participants represented a wide spectrum of research interest and sessions were delivered on topics such as the politics of memory in post-conflict societies, the role of patronal networks in regional development projects in the Russian Far East, nostalgia and transition in the Republic of Moldova among others. Altogether there were five panels focusing on the provision of feedback for the presenters on their research and on engaging the audience in an exchange of ideas. During lunch breaks the participants could enjoy local dishes in one of the traditional restaurants of the picturesque village of Dornburg and take walks in the caste garden. In the evenings, upon return to Jena, we enjoyed dinners together and summed up the daily work in a more informal setting. The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. Rafael Biermann and organizer by Sung Jin Park.
