We have successfully held the first two events in our ongoing lecture series on the Middle East.
On 23 April 2025, Dr. Tom Khaled Würdemann from Heidelberg University delivered an energetic and highly informative lecture on Arab perspectives on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, touching also upon the positions of the German state and academic institutions regarding the situation in Gaza and Israel.
On 14 May 2025, Dr. Carsten Wieland from the Geneva Centre for Security Policy gave a fascinating presentation about Syria's future following the fall of the Assad regime, demonstrating outstanding depth of knowledge on the topic derived from his extensive experience of working in Syria as a UN advisor and engaging with the subject in an academic context.
Both lectures were followed by Q&A sessions with the active participation of our students and academic staff. The sessions were followed by informal dinners attended by our speakers and staff members from the organizing chairs of the lecture series: the Chair of International Relations and the Chair of Arabic Studies.
